Jaipur: A new chapter in IPL history was written on Saturday as 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to be included in an IPL match.

At just 14 years and 23 days old, Vaibhav was named on Rajasthan Royals’ impact substitute list during their match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur- a historic appearance that stunned fans and experts alike.

The teenager, born in 2011, is the first-ever IPL player born after the league’s inception in 2008, marking a unique milestone in the tournament’s 17-year history.

With Rajasthan Royals bowling first, Vaibhav was lined up to play a role when the team batted, a move confirmed by stand-in captain Riyan Parag at the toss. Regular skipper Sanju Samson missed the match due to an injury sustained during a previous encounter against Delhi Capitals.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been making waves in Indian cricket for some time. He first caught the public’s eye with his exceptional performances in age-group tournaments and became the youngest Indian cricketer to debut in List A cricket. He also set another benchmark as the youngest player to appear in a Ranji Trophy match, debuting at just 12 years and 284 days old.

Recognizing his prodigious talent, Rajasthan Royals secured Vaibhav’s services in the IPL 2025 mega auction for an impressive ₹1.10 crore, underscoring the faith placed in his potential.

Ahead of the IPL season, the young batting sensation made headlines again by scoring the fastest century by an Indian in U19 Test cricket, reaching his ton in just 58 balls, just two deliveries shy of Moeen Ali’s all-time record.
