New Delhi: Alyssa Healy’s commanding 142 powered Australia to a thrilling victory over India in the Women’s Cricket World Cup. The win came as the defending champions completed a record-breaking chase in a group-stage one-day international, sealing a three-wicket triumph.
Chasing a formidable 331 for victory, Australia reached their target with six balls to spare, with Ellyse Perry steering her side home with an unbeaten 47 alongside Kim Garth.
The win, Australia’s third in four matches, lifted them to the top of the standings, while hosts India remained third after suffering a second consecutive defeat, having lost to South Africa earlier in the tournament.
Healy provided the backbone of the chase, combining in a brisk opening stand with Phoebe Litchfield and later forging a crucial partnership with Ashleigh Gardner. She fell when Australia still required 66 runs from 68 balls, having blazed a path for her team with her aggressive strokeplay. Perry, who had earlier retired hurt with cramps, returned late in the innings to guide Australia over the line.

“Really proud of the group,” Healy said after the win. “It was a little tight at the back end. We’ve been talking about the depth in our lineup, and being able to chase 330 proves it. Full credit to our bowlers for pulling it back; we could have been chasing 360-plus. I was trying to lock in for a big day, and to contribute heavily was great. I would have liked to stay a bit longer, but the girls got the job done,” she added.
Australia’s 331-run chase surpassed the previous women’s ODI record of 302, set by Sri Lanka against South Africa in April 2024 at Potchefstroom.
India had been well-positioned after Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal shared a 155-run opening stand, but a dramatic collapse saw them lose nine wickets for 138 runs, finishing on 330. Annabel Sutherland’s five-wicket haul had sparked India’s slide.
