Ayodhya: Ayodhya is set to make history once again, as preparations peak for two world record attempts during this year’s Deepotsav celebrations in Uttar Pradesh.
On Saturday, around 21,000 devotees gathered on the banks of the Saryu River to take part in a massive Aarti ceremony, setting what organisers say is a new world record for the largest number of participants in a single Aarti.
A team from the Guinness World Records was present to verify the claim and confirm participant numbers using QR code tracking. The record is under official review and is expected to surpass the previous mark of 1,151 participants.
Ayodhya now gears up for another world record attempt on Sunday evening, with 26,11,101 earthen lamps set to illuminate 56 ghats along the Saryu. Drones operated by Guinness officials will count the diyas to verify the record for the largest number of lamps lit simultaneously.

Nearly 30,000 volunteers have been mobilised for the event, and preparations began early Sunday morning. The process of filling lamps with oil and placing wicks has been underway under the supervision of ghat coordinators and officials from Dr Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University. Students and volunteers from local colleges and social organisations are assisting with arrangements to ensure a smooth ceremony.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to attend the grand lamp-lighting event this evening, which is expected to turn the ghats of Ayodhya into a breathtaking sea of light. For security, a large contingent of police personnel has been deployed, and entry to the ghats is restricted to those with authorised ID cards.
Adding to the festive grandeur, a laser and drone show will light up the night sky, celebrating Ayodhya’s enduring cultural and spiritual heritage. If successful, the twin record-breaking events– the largest Aarti and the highest number of diyas lit at once- will mark another historic chapter in Ayodhya’s Deepotsav celebrations.
