Riyadh: Indian Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers JP Nadda led a high-level Indian delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The visit marked the beginning of a deeper economic and strategic collaboration between the two nations, with a special emphasis on fertilizer security, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.
During his visit, Nadda held comprehensive discussions with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar bin Ibrahim Al Khorayef, in Riyadh. Both sides expressed a strong commitment to enhancing cooperation across critical sectors, notably fertilizers, petrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of long-term supply agreements between Saudi Arabia’s mining giant, Maaden, and three Indian public sector undertakings, Indian Potash Limited (IPL), KRIBHCO, and Coromandel International Ltd (CIL).

The agreement secures the supply of 3.1 million metric tones (MT) of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) annually to India from FY 2025-26 for five years, with a provision to extend for another five years by mutual consent.
In FY 2024-25, India’s imports of DAP fertilizer from Saudi Arabia stood at 1.9 million MT, marking a 17 percent increase from the 1.6 million MT imported in FY 2023-24.
Both countries also explored collaboration in other key fertilizers, such as urea, and agreed to facilitate mutual investments. Opportunities for Indian PSUs to invest in the Saudi fertilizer sector and reciprocal Saudi investments in India were discussed. The leaders also reviewed possibilities for joint research, especially on India-specific and sustainable fertilizer solutions.
To drive this partnership forward, a joint working group has been constituted. The Indian side will be led by the Secretary (Fertilizers), while the Saudi side will be represented by the Vice Minister for Mining Affairs from the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources.
