Dubai/London: Cricket is set for its most exciting evolution yet with the launch of Test Twenty, a new 80-over format that unites the depth of Test cricket with the energy of the shorter game.
Conceived by Gaurav Bahirvani, Executive Chairman of The One One Six Network, the new format, described as the Fourth Format, aims to protect cricket’s traditions while appealing to a new generation of fans and players.
Test Twenty will be played over 80 overs, split into two innings of 20 overs per side, all in one day. It keeps the traditional outcomes of win, loss, tie, or draw but delivers fast, competitive cricket suited to today’s audiences.
“This isn’t another league — it’s a living tribute to the spirit of cricket. Test Twenty preserves the game’s legacy while shaping its future,” said Bahirvani at the global launch.
The Test Twenty Advisory Board includes cricket icons AB de Villiers, Sir Clive Lloyd, Matthew Hayden, and Harbhajan Singh, all of whom share a belief in cricket’s ability to evolve without losing its soul.
“Test Twenty honours the game’s roots while embracing its future. It gives young players a new dream to chase and fans a fresh story to follow,” said AB de Villiers.

Sir Clive Lloyd said that, “The game has always adapted, but never with such thoughtfulness. Test Twenty brings back the rhythm and artistry of cricket while keeping it alive with modern energy.”
Matthew Hayden called it “a bridge between generations,” while Harbhajan Singh added that, “Cricket needed a new heartbeat — Test Twenty brings that connection back.”
Test Twenty is designed as a global movement for young talent aged 13 to 19. Through the Junior Test Twenty Championship (JTTC), players from over 50 nations will compete for selection in national and international franchises. “Our mission is to build a fair, merit-based pathway that gives every young player a chance to be seen and celebrated,” said Bahirvani.
The format introduces a Discovery Engine that uses data, video analysis, and performance tracking to identify talent with accuracy and transparency. This technology will be shared with cricket boards and academies worldwide to strengthen grassroots scouting.
The first Test Twenty season begins in January 2026, featuring six teams — three from India and three international teams representing Dubai, London, and the United States. Each squad will have 16 players, evenly divided between Indian and international talent.
