India: The crescent moon for Eid-ul-Fitr has been sighted in India, confirming the celebration of the festival on Monday, March 31, 2025. The joyous occasion marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, which commenced on March 2, 2025.
Khalid Rashid Farangi, Chairman of the Central Moon Sighting Committee, made the official announcement, confirming that Eid prayers would take place on Monday across the country.
The moon was first sighted in Lucknow on Sunday evening, with Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali stating that, “The moon has been sighted today, March 30, and Eid will be celebrated on March 31. Namaz will be offered at 10 a.m. in Lucknow Eidgah.”

Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations commenced a day earlier in Saudi Arabia and other parts of the Middle East, including the UAE, where the crescent moon was sighted on Saturday evening.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The festival symbolizes the end of a month-long fast and is observed with prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.
Across India, cities including New Delhi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Noida, Kolkata, Chennai, Patna, and Mumbai witnessed the appearance of the crescent moon on Sunday evening, affirming nationwide celebrations.
