Chennai: India scripted a historic moment in squash as Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, and Anahat Singh powered the country to its first-ever Squash World Cup title with a commanding 3–0 victory over Hong Kong in the final.
Playing their maiden World Cup final on home soil in Chennai, the Indian team delivered a calm and clinical performance to defeat the pre-tournament favourites in straight matches. The win marked India’s best-ever finish at the World Cup, surpassing their bronze-medal effort from 2023.
Hong Kong also enjoyed its finest showing in the competition’s history, improving on its bronze-medal finish from two years ago, but it was outplayed by a confident Indian side backed by a vocal home crowd.
Veteran Joshna Chinappa set the tone for India with a composed opening performance. The world No. 79 produced a gritty display to defeat higher-ranked Ka Yi Lee, who is placed 42nd in the world. Joshna sealed the contest 7–3, 2–7, 7–5, 7–1 in 23 minutes.

Joshna dominated the first game with smart shot selection and sharp movement. Lee responded strongly in the second and third games, increasing the tempo and forcing longer rallies. However, Joshna’s experience came to the fore as she stayed patient, regained control, and closed out the match convincingly.
With India off to a perfect start, Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh ensured there were no slip-ups. Abhay delivered a ruthless performance against reigning Asian champion Alex Lau, winning in straight games to give India an unassailable 2–0 lead in the final.
Anahat Singh then completed the sweep, sealing the title and sparking loud celebrations inside the venue as India lifted the Squash World Cup trophy for the first time.
