New Delhi: India has advised its citizens currently in Iran to leave the country at the earliest, as authorities monitor a rapidly evolving security situation driven by ongoing unrest.
In an advisory issued on Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran urged all Indian nationals, including students, pilgrims, business travellers, and tourists, to depart using available means of transport, including commercial flights.
The embassy said citizens should keep their passports and other identity documents readily accessible and remain in contact with embassy officials for assistance.
Emergency contact numbers and a dedicated consular email address were shared to support those seeking help. The embassy also asked Indians who have not yet registered their presence in Iran to do so through the official registration portal. In cases where internet access is disrupted inside Iran, families in India were requested to complete the registration on their behalf.

The advisory follows a fresh warning from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, which on Wednesday asked citizens to avoid all travel to Iran until further notice. The ministry cited continuing unrest, including reports of violence and deaths linked to protests that began last month.
The latest warning reinforces an earlier advisory issued on January 5, which had called on Indians to avoid non-essential travel to Iran and urged those already there to exercise caution. At the time, citizens were advised to stay away from protest sites, closely follow local developments, and regularly check updates from the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
Indian nationals living in Iran on resident visas have again been urged to ensure they are registered with the embassy for timely assistance during emergencies.
