Brisbane: India clinched a 2-1 victory in the five-match T20 series against Australia after the final game at the Gabba was washed out by heavy rain on Saturday, ending the contest after just 4.5 overs.
Put in to bat after losing the toss, India’s openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill gave the visitors a brisk start, taking the score to 52 without loss before a thunderstorm swept through Brisbane.
Gill looked in fine touch, smashing six crisp boundaries on his way to 29 not out, while Abhishek remained unbeaten on 23 after surviving two dropped catches off Glenn Maxwell and Ben Dwarshuis.
The packed Gabba crowd waited patiently in hope of a resumption, but the weather refused to clear. After more than two hours of delay, officials were left with no choice but to call off the match, confirming India’s series triumph.

The series had already seen its share of weather drama, with the opening game in Canberra also washed out. Australia struck back in the second match in Melbourne, winning by four wickets thanks to a sharp spell from Josh Hazlewood. But with Hazlewood and other Ashes-bound players withdrawn from the squad, India regrouped strongly, claiming the third T20 in Hobart by five wickets and the fourth on the Gold Coast by a commanding 48 runs.
Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series for his consistent performances, scoring 163 runs at an average of 40.75. His fearless stroke play and composure at the top set the tone for India’s comeback after being 1-0 down.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav lauded the collective effort behind the win, saying the side showed character and balance across conditions. India, currently the world’s top-ranked T20 team, will return home with renewed confidence and a deep bench of in-form players as they gear up to defend their T20 World Cup crown on home soil early next year.
