Mumbai: Indian playback singer Arijit Singh has stunned fans and the music industry by announcing that he is stepping away from playback singing at the peak of his career. While some feared a full retirement, Singh clarified that he will not quit music entirely and plans to continue creating songs independently.

The singer shared that the decision to pause film singing had been on his mind for some time and that he finally found the courage to take this step. He emphasized that the break is driven by personal and creative reasons rather than fatigue or dissatisfaction. Singh also assured fans that he will complete pending commitments, with several releases still expected this year.

Born on April 25, 1987, in Jiaganj, West Bengal, Singh began his musical journey through a reality television show and gained widespread recognition with the 2013 hit ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from Aashiqui 2. Over the years, he has lent his voice to countless popular Bollywood songs, including ‘Channa Mereya,’ ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho,’ ‘Raabta,’ ‘Kesariya,’ ‘Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage,’ ‘Satranga,’ and ‘Tainu Khabar Nahi.’ In addition to Hindi, he has performed in Bengali, Marathi, and Telugu films, contributing to an estimated 300–700 songs.

Singh’s last released song as a playback singer is ‘Matrubhoomi,’ a patriotic track from Salman Khan’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan, released during Republic Day week. The song pays tribute to India’s soldiers and marks a symbolic farewell to his illustrious playback career.

According to reports, Singh’s playback singing fees range from Rs 8–10 lakh per song, with high-budget projects earning him up to Rs 25 lakh per track. For live performances, he reportedly charges nearly Rs 2 crore, with some concerts reportedly bringing in as much as Rs 14 crore. The Padma Shri awardee leaves behind a legacy of chart-topping songs that have defined modern Bollywood music.

While Singh has stepped back from playback singing, he appears to be embracing a new creative chapter, exploring his music independently while continuing to engage with his millions of fans across the country and beyond.
