The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has spotlighted Morocco’s exceptional track record in hosting major football events as the country prepares to host the expanded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2025.
In a statement on its official website, CAF highlighted Morocco’s consistent ability to organise world-class tournaments, citing examples such as the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2023. Morocco’s selection as the host nation, announced on September 27, 2023, was met with widespread enthusiasm.
With top-tier infrastructure, a passionate football culture, and extensive hosting experience, Morocco is expected to set new standards for the prestigious competition. The 2025 edition of AFCON will mark a significant milestone, expanding from eight teams in 1988, when Morocco last hosted the event, to 24 teams, reflecting the rapid growth of African football.
The tournament will feature matches in iconic stadiums, including Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, and large venues in Tangier, Agadir, and Marrakech. The opening match will take place on December 21, 2025, with the final scheduled for January 18, 2026.
The final draw for AFCON 2025 is set to be held in Rabat on January 27, 2025, as anticipation builds for what promises to be a memorable chapter in the competition’s history.
