Bengaluru: Ola Electric has launched ‘Ola Shakti’, a portable power device designed to supply energy to homes, farms, and small businesses. With this launch, the Bengaluru-based electric vehicle manufacturer has entered the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market, currently valued at around ₹1 lakh crore and projected to triple by 2030.

“Ola Electric was never just about vehicles. Our vision has always been to build the full energy storage ecosystem. Ola Shakti is a last-mile, grid-complementing solution that offers power backup, solar energy storage, voltage stability, and power portability,” said Chairman and Managing Director Bhavish Aggarwal at the launch event.

The Ola Shakti will be available in four models- 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh, with prices starting at ₹29,999. Pre-bookings are open for ₹999, and deliveries are expected to begin by Makar Sankranti 2026.

According to the company, the device can power heavy-duty appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication systems. It features a fast-charging time of just two hours and provides up to 1.5 hours of backup on full load.

Built with IP67 weatherproof batteries, Ola Shakti also includes instant power changeover and real-time monitoring through a connected mobile app. Aggarwal described it as a portable, on-demand power source adjusted to the needs of Indian households, farms, and small enterprises.

“India doesn’t face an energy shortage; what it faces is an energy storage challenge. While solar energy meets part of the demand, batteries are the missing link. Our goal is to bridge this gap and help India achieve energy independence,” Aggarwal said.

Ola Electric plans to leverage its existing Gigafactory and 4680 cell technology to scale production for the BESS market. The company expects annual consumption for this segment to reach 5 GWh, surpassing its automotive battery usage in the coming years.
