Madrid: World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka continued her dominant 2025 campaign by claiming her third Madrid Open title, defeating Coco Gauff 6-3, 7-6 (7/3) in the final.
The Belarusian, who also won the title in 2021 and 2023, needed just over 90 minutes to dispatch the fourth-ranked American. She produced a commanding first set and held firm in a tightly contested second-set tie-break to seal her sixth final appearance of the season.
The victory marks Sabalenka’s tour-leading 31st win this year, adding to her title haul in Brisbane and Miami, and further solidifying her position at the top of the WTA rankings.
“Honestly, it feels like a dream. I’ve been working really hard, and I know what I’m capable of. But to keep producing these results, to reach six finals already this year -it’s really special,” Sabalenka told post-match.

Sabalenka wasted no time asserting control in the opening set. After Gauff held serve to start the match, the top seed rattled off 17 consecutive points, securing breaks in the third and fifth games to race ahead 4-1.
Sabalenka’s win comes after Swiatek- the 2024 Madrid champion and her main rival- was stunned by Gauff in the semi-final. With Swiatek’s recent dip in form, Sabalenka is expected to head into Roland Garros later this month as a strong favorite.
The Madrid victory also marked the 37th final of Sabalenka’s career, underscoring her consistency and evolution into one of the most feared competitors on tour. With clay season in full swing, she now shifts her focus to Paris- and possibly another major title.
