Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who was discharged from Lilavati Hospital on January 21 after surviving a brutal attack, met Bhajan Singh Rana, the auto driver who rushed him to the hospital in the early hours of January 16. The emotional meeting occurred shortly before Khan returned home.
The attack unfolded when an intruder, identified as Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam Shehzad, illegally entered the actor’s residence, Satguru Niwas, and stabbed him multiple times during an attempted burglary. Despite severe injuries, Khan managed to seek help, and Rana, unaware of the actor’s identity at the time, stepped in to transport him to safety.
Recounting the incident, Rana told NDTV, “I was on Linking Road when a woman frantically stopped my rickshaw and directed me to the building gate. Saif, wearing a blood-stained white shirt, entered the auto with two companions. I didn’t realise it was him; I was just focused on the urgency of the situation.”
Khan underwent two surgeries to repair his wounds. Following his recovery, the actor invited Rana to meet him, expressing gratitude for his swift actions. “I was nervous that night but knew I had to help,” Rana said. “Today’s meeting felt special. Saif and his family treated me with immense respect.”
The accused, Shehzad, who had been living in India under the alias Bijoy Das, has been arrested by Mumbai Police. Authorities continue to investigate the breach of security leading to the incident.
Saif Ali Khan’s family expressed their relief and gratitude, calling Rana a hero for his timely assistance. As the actor recovers, the incident has sparked conversations about public safety and the bravery of ordinary citizens in emergencies.
