Beijing: World number two Jannik Sinner delivered a commanding performance to defeat American teenager Learner Tien 6-2, 6-2 in the China Open final, securing his third title of the season and the 21st ATP Tour trophy of his career.
The victory came a day after world number one Carlos Alcaraz claimed the Japan Open title, marking the first time since 2020 that the world’s top two men’s players won trophies in the same week. Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal last achieved the feat with triumphs in Dubai and Acapulco, respectively.
“This is a very special place for me,” Sinner said during the Beijing trophy ceremony. “My team, thank you for understanding and working with me. Not all of them are here, but hopefully they are watching from home. We’ll keep pushing and see how the rest of the season looks,” he added.

Sinner entered the final after overcoming physical struggles in a hard-fought semi-final against Alex de Minaur on Tuesday, where he battled a stomach bug. Against 19-year-old Tien, however, he showed no signs of discomfort, breaking in the opening game and maintaining full control to take the first set.
Tien, contesting his first ATP final and aiming to become the youngest American champion since Andy Roddick in 2002, earned break opportunities early in the second set but was unable to convert. Sinner extended his lead to 4-2 before sealing the match on his third championship point.
With the win, Sinner became only the second player, after Djokovic, to win multiple titles at the ATP 500 event in Beijing. He also paid tribute to his opponent, saying that, “You’ve shown all season what a talent you are. Keep going—you’re playing incredible tennis. I wish you all the best for the rest of the season and your career. Hopefully, we can share more moments like this in the future.”
