Bahrain: Sudheer Thirunilath, Director of Humanitarian Aid for the World NRI Council – Middle East Region, was presented with the ‘Asian Arab Award 2025’ instituted by the Arab Asian Chamber of Commerce (AACC) at the Ramadan Award Ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Bahrain. The event honoured around 30 individuals from various sectors, both local and international.
Mr. Thirunilath was recognised for his coordination of humanitarian initiatives that support the non-resident Indian (NRI) communities across the Middle East. His responsibilities include planning and implementing aid programmes during times of crisis or hardship faced by expatriates.
For the past five years, he has served as the regional face of the World NRI Council in the Middle East, leading efforts such as support for distressed workers, medical aid, collaboration with local agencies, and assistance for those facing travel restrictions.
AACC representatives highlighted the importance of cross-cultural and community engagement in multicultural regions like the Gulf. Mr. Thirunilath’s ongoing commitment was noted as an example of sustained engagement with local communities while addressing the evolving needs of expatriate populations.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Thirunilath expressed gratitude to the Arab Asian Chamber of Commerce and emphasised that the recognition reflects the collective efforts of volunteers and community organisations. “This award is the result of the dedication shown by numerous individuals and groups who generously contribute their time and resources in support of humanitarian causes,” he said.
The ‘Asian Arab Award’ recipients are selected through a structured nomination and evaluation process, with hundreds of entries reviewed across various categories.
Having worked in Bahrain for the past 32 years, Mr. Thirunilath remains actively involved in multiple organisations that support the welfare of Indian expatriates throughout the Gulf region.
He currently serves as the Executive Secretary to a member of the royal family in Bahrain. His wife, Simy Sudheer, resides in Bahrain, while their elder daughter, Dr. Amrutha Sudheer, is pursuing postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom.
