Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates has introduced four new visit visa categories designed to attract artificial intelligence (AI) specialists, entertainment professionals, event participants, and cruise tourists.
The move aims at reinforcing the country’s position as a global hub for innovation, culture, and tourism. Officials said the reforms highlight the UAE’s commitment to openness and its drive to attract expertise, entrepreneurs, and specialists in advanced technology, particularly AI, alongside boosting the cultural and tourism sectors.
New Visa Categories
The new visit visas include:
- AI Specialist Visa: Single or multiple-entry permits issued for a specific period, conditional on a letter from a recognised sponsoring or hosting technology facility.
- Entertainment Visa: For foreigners entering the UAE temporarily for recreational and entertainment activities.
- Events Visa: Covers attendance at festivals, conferences, exhibitions, sports, cultural, or educational events. Applications require a letter from the hosting public or private entity detailing the event and its duration.
- Tourism Visa: A multiple-entry permit for visitors arriving via cruise ships or leisure boats, valid for temporary stays, provided the itinerary includes UAE stops and is tied to a licensed operator.

Residency and Humanitarian Measures
Alongside the new visas, residency regulations have been updated. Widows and divorcees can apply for a one-year renewable residence permit, subject to conditions. Residents may also sponsor relatives or friends up to the third degree, depending on their income level.
For entrepreneurs and professionals, the Business Exploration Visa requires proof of financial solvency, ownership in an existing company abroad, or professional credentials. The Truck Drivers’ Visa mandates sponsorship by a licensed freight company, health insurance, and financial guarantees.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security has also been empowered to grant humanitarian residence permits. These will cover foreigners displaced by wars, disasters, or unrest, with one-year residency permits available and renewable under specific conditions.
Authorities said the updated visa system reflects the UAE’s balance between economic growth and inclusivity, while consolidating its status as a destination for skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, tourists, and vulnerable groups.
