Washington: The US State Department has cleared the potential sale of Starlink satellite services and equipment, along with Patriot air defense sustainment and related systems, to Ukraine, the Pentagon announced on Friday.

The proposed sales are valued at $150 million for Starlink and $179 million for Patriot-related support. Both notifications form part of Washington’s broader effort, in coordination with European allies, to expand military assistance to Kyiv amid Russia’s ongoing war.

The announcements follow Thursday’s U.S. approval for the potential sale of air-launched cruise missiles and related equipment to Ukraine, a deal estimated at $825 million.

Officials said the new arrangement comes under an agreement with European partners, under which European governments will finance US-made weapons and equipment for Ukraine, as President Donald Trump seeks to increase pressure on Moscow to agree to a negotiated peace settlement.

Starlink satellite services have become critical to Ukraine’s military operations, ensuring resilient communications and enabling command of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which form the backbone of Kyiv’s strikes against Russian forces.

Meanwhile, the Patriot air defense systems have played a central role in intercepting and destroying Russian ballistic missiles aimed at Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure.

The Pentagon noted that while the State Department has approved the sales, the notifications do not constitute final contracts. Formal agreements would be required before delivery, and negotiations remain ongoing.
