Mumbai: The Maharashtra branch of the Journalists and Media Association (JMA), a national organization representing media professionals, has announced several welfare-focused programs aimed at enhancing journalists’ financial security, professional development, and institutional support nationwide.
The announcements were made at the organization’s expansion meeting in Navi Mumbai, which was attended by National President Vaishakh Suresh and other higher officials.
The major part of the initiative is a ₹20 lakh accident insurance cover for media professionals working in challenging and high-risk environments. The scheme will be extended to all JMA members across India.
The association also announced the formation of a multi-state cooperative society designed to enhance the financial stability of its members. Registration processes for the society have already begun, with plans to provide access to low-interest loans and other financial assistance mechanisms.
The association has also introduced professional training programs focused on media ethics, workplace professionalism, and field safety. In addition, JMA has announced digital media support to assist members with legal recognition and technical guidance related to registration processes in the digital media space.
JMA office bearers stated that these initiatives form part of JMA’s broader national efforts to safeguard the rights of media professionals and to strengthen the role of the fourth pillar of democracy.
