US: Football fans around the world now have a new way to experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, as FIFA and Netflix have unveiled FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition, a new football video game released just days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 11.
Available exclusively through Netflix Games, the title gives Netflix subscribers free access to an officially licensed World Cup gaming experience, allowing fans to take control of their favorite national teams and recreate the tournament from their homes.
Official Tournament Experience
The game has been designed to closely reflect the real-world tournament. Players can choose from all 48 national teams competing in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup and play matches across all 16 official tournament stadiums.
In addition, the game includes a roster of more than 1,200 players, giving users access to many of the stars expected to feature on football’s biggest stage.
Matches follow the structure and atmosphere of the actual World Cup, enabling players to guide their chosen nation through the competition in pursuit of the trophy.
Designed for Casual Players and Fans
Unlike many football simulation games that require extensive gaming experience and complex controls, FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition has been developed with accessibility as a key priority.
The game features simplified controls that make it easy for newcomers to pick up and play. FIFA has positioned the title as a football-first experience aimed at fans of the sport rather than dedicated gamers, ensuring that players of all ages and skill levels can enjoy the action without a steep learning curve.
This approach broadens the game’s appeal and aligns with FIFA’s objective of reaching a wider global audience during the World Cup period.

Smartphone as a Controller
One of the most innovative features of the game is its controller system. Players can launch the game on a compatible smart TV and scan a QR code using their smartphone, instantly transforming the device into a controller.
Basic gameplay functions such as passing, shooting, movement, and tactical actions can be managed directly from the phone. The feature eliminates the need for expensive gaming consoles or dedicated controllers, making the game more accessible to households around the world.
The smartphone integration also supports FIFA’s efforts to remove barriers to entry and encourage greater participation among casual fans.
Multiplayer World Cup Action
Beyond single-player gameplay, FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition includes local multiplayer support for up to four players in a single match.
The feature is expected to be particularly popular during World Cup viewing gatherings, allowing friends and family members to compete against each other and recreate the excitement of international football in a social setting.
By emphasizing shared experiences and easy accessibility, the game aims to capture the communal spirit that has long been associated with the FIFA World Cup.
Part of FIFA’s Digital Strategy
FIFA has confirmed that the Launch Edition represents only the first phase of its collaboration with Netflix Games. Additional gameplay features, content updates, and enhancements are expected to be introduced in the months ahead.
The partnership forms part of FIFA’s broader digital engagement strategy, which seeks to strengthen connections with fans through interactive entertainment and digital platforms.
