Washington: US President Donald Trump signed into law a sweeping package of tax and spending cuts, marking one of the most significant legislative victories of his second term in a high-profile Fourth of July ceremony at the White House.
The outdoor event, complete with military flyovers and attended by hundreds of supporters, resembled more of a political rally than a traditional bill signing.
The legislation, narrowly passed by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives just a day earlier, includes permanent extensions of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, deep spending reductions, and the largest investment in border security in American history.
It also provides funding for the administration’s aggressive immigration policies and is projected to leave millions of Americans without health insurance.

With military jets soaring overhead and a crowd of cheering supporters gathered on the South Lawn, Trump praised the bill as a transformative measure that will strengthen the economy, bolster national security, and benefit working Americans.
“I’ve never seen people so happy in our country because of this. So many different groups of people are being taken care of by the military, civilians, workers of all kinds,” Trump declared.
The ceremony showcased elements typical of Trump’s political events, including a display of military might, patriotic fanfare, and enthusiastic applause from his base. Among the attendees were White House aides, Republican members of Congress, military families, and Cabinet officials.
The legislation cleared the House with a razor-thin 218-214 vote after an intense and emotional debate. While Republican leadership hailed the bill as essential for economic growth and national security, critics warned it would deepen income inequality and severely impact vulnerable Americans.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected the measure would add over $3 trillion to the existing $36.2 trillion national debt over the next decade.
The bill faced opposition from all 212 Democrats and even two Republican lawmakers who cited concerns over the financial burden and the potential erosion of social safety nets, including healthcare and food assistance programs.
Despite internal divisions and public backlash, the successful passage of the bill represents a key policy triumph for Trump and underscores his continuing influence over the Republican Party.
