Milan: If the aroma of Indian chai is part of your daily ritual, Prada’s latest fragrance may feel instantly familiar. The luxury fashion house has launched a chai-inspired perfume called Infusion de Santal Chai, turning the warmth of a well-brewed cup of tea into a wearable scent.
The fragrance is part of Prada’s unisex Les Infusions collection and was unveiled through the brand’s official social media platforms. The launch video keeps things understated, showing a brown-toned bottle alongside visuals of creamy tea flowing over sandalwood bark, with green cardamom pods in the background. Cardamom is a key ingredient in traditional masala chai and plays a central role in the scent’s identity.
According to the Prada Beauty website, Infusion de Santal Chai has a woody and milky profile. Its key notes include a chai latte accord, sandalwood, citrus, and musks. The overall effect is designed to feel warm, soft, and comforting, with a gentle freshness that balances the richness of the tea and wood elements.
Priced at 190 dollars, or roughly Rs 17,000, the perfume firmly sits in the luxury segment. It is positioned as an indulgence rather than an everyday buy, appealing to fragrance lovers who are willing to pay a premium for a distinctive and emotionally evocative scent.
Prada’s use of chai is also another example of the brand drawing inspiration from Indian culture. Last year, the label sparked debate during its Milan fashion show when models wore footwear that closely resembled traditional Kolhapuri chappals, leading to accusations of cultural appropriation.
