US: Walt Disney’s Zootopia 2 has made history by becoming the highest-grossing animated film ever at the global box office. The sequel has collected around $1.7 billion worldwide, surpassing Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which previously held the record at $1.69 billion.
Released on November 26, 2025, Zootopia 2 reached this milestone within weeks of its debut, driven largely by its international success. Overseas markets contributed approximately $1.31 billion, while the film earned $390 million in the United States and Canada.
China has emerged as the largest overseas market for the film, generating around $610 million and ranking it as the second-highest-grossing Hollywood release in the country, behind Avengers: Endgame. The film’s popularity in China is attributed in part to audiences connecting with Judy Hopps’ journey from a small town to a sprawling metropolis, and the opening of a Zootopia-themed land at Shanghai Disneyland.
The film has also become the ninth-biggest global release of all time. It holds records for the highest worldwide animated opening, the fastest animated Hollywood film to cross $1 billion, and the quickest PG-rated movie to achieve such a feat.

Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, Zootopia 2 brings back Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman as detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. The duo investigates the arrival of a mysterious new reptilian resident, voiced by Ke Huy Quan, whose presence throws the city into chaos.
Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman said the achievement reflects the fans’ enthusiasm worldwide and praised the filmmakers and Walt Disney Animation Studios for creating a story that resonates globally.
Zootopia 2 continues to dominate theatres and is set to remain a milestone in animated filmmaking for years to come.
