Guwahati: India secured a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies after completing a record chase of 405 runs in the second ODI at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium, with captain Shubman Gill scoring an unbeaten 223.

Rohit struck 10 boundaries and six sixes, while Gill hit 26 fours and eight sixes in an innings that took India comfortably past the 400-run target.
After being asked to bat first, the West Indies made full use of the batting-friendly conditions, with three batters scoring centuries.

The total was their highest-ever ODI score, but the Indian batting response quickly shifted the momentum.
Gill and Rohit attacked the West Indies bowling from the outset, keeping the required run rate under control throughout their partnership.
Gill continued after Rohit’s dismissal and remained unbeaten on 223. He then combined with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who finished unbeaten on 31, to take India across the line.
Gill’s double century came in 133 balls, making it the fastest ODI double century, according to the match report. His 223 not out also became the centerpiece of India’s highest successful ODI chase.
The result gives India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series following their victory in the opening ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. The third and final ODI will be played in New Chandigarh on October 3. With India having already secured the series, the match will have no bearing on the series result.
