India-EFTA trade pact
The India-EFTA TEPA was signed in March 2024 after nearly 16 years of negotiations and entered into force in October 2025. The agreement brings together India and the four EFTA member states: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
Under the agreement, EFTA states have committed to endeavoring to facilitate investments of $100 billion in India over 15 years, with the potential to support the creation of one million direct jobs. The investment commitment is a key element of the trade pact, which aims to strengthen economic ties and expand market access between the participating countries.
Jaishankar said that the bilateral partnership was gaining momentum across several areas, driven by opportunities created by the agreement. The discussions during Prince Alois’s visit are expected to build on this progress and identify further avenues for cooperation.
The current visit marks Prince Alois’s second trip to India in 2026. He previously visited New Delhi in February to attend the AI Impact Summit. He also visited India in 2010 and 2018.
During his current visit, Prince Alois attended a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat.
Jaiswal said Gandhi’s enduring legacy of non-violence and peace remained relevant, highlighting the significance of the Prince’s visit in advancing relations between the two countries.
