New Delhi: The fifth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be played from January 14 to February 7, 2027, with the player auction scheduled for October 28 in Kochi, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday.
The BCCI has not yet disclosed the cities that will host matches during the 2027 season. The player retention deadline has been set for September 28, giving the five franchises an opportunity to finalise their existing squads ahead of the auction.
“The TATA WPL has established itself as a significant platform for the growth of the sport, bringing together leading players from India and around the world while creating opportunities for emerging talent to perform at the highest level,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The five participating franchises will be able to retain players from their current squads before the auction. The retention process will allow the teams to determine the core of their respective squads before entering the player auction in Kochi.
The 2027 season will be the fifth edition of the league since its launch in 2023. The tournament has featured five franchises since its inaugural season and has provided a platform for established international players as well as emerging Indian talent.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), led by India batter Smriti Mandhana, won the 2026 WPL title. The Bengaluru-based franchise secured its second championship after also winning the inaugural title in 2024.
The 2026 edition was played across Navi Mumbai and Vadodara. The tournament has previously been staged across different venues as the BCCI has expanded its hosting arrangements beyond a single city.
Mumbai Indians were the inaugural WPL champions in 2023, while RCB won the 2024 edition. Mumbai Indians claimed their second title in 2025 before RCB returned to the top in 2026.
With the retention deadline set for September 28, the franchises will now begin finalising their squad plans for the 2027 season. The auction in Kochi on October 28 will then determine the remaining player acquisitions ahead of the tournament’s January 14 start.
